Strategic Plan
PSALT uses the following steps to achieve its goals:
Awareness and Education:
Share with brothers and sisters about what is happening in North Korea and how we can help. We must first be aware of what is happening in order to pray and act!
It is amazing, yet not unbelievable to see how many people are completely unaware of the incredible suffering and abuses in North Korea. We are working to educate those around us — particularly believers and existing church ministries/networks — about what is happening in North Korea so that we can then take the first steps to care, pray and act! PSALT, believes this work requires an awakening to the movement of the Spirit and strengthening of faith to be able to see and participate in the work God is doing through obedient and faithful hearts that are passionate about this cause.
We find that it is particularly necessary to raise awareness among the younger generations of Koreans/Korean-Americans and non-Koreans. Oftentimes, we find that awareness among younger Korean Americans and non-Koreans immediately generates genuine interest – this is our Holocaust. While seeing the younger generations impassioned on this issue may seem counterintuitive to some, we find it makes a lot of sense and is a reflection of God-appointed timing.
Among older generations, there is a general need for healing and awakening. Many of the older generations of Koreans are somewhat aware of the situation, but scars from the past too often keep the issue of North Korea from surfacing in many churches. Those churches who once had a heart for North Korea sometimes find themselves disappointed and deceived — i.e. in the distribution of their monetary/food support, etc. — and therefore increasingly skeptical and discouraged from believing they could be effective. However, once it is realized that the generations can work together to make a real impact, we have witnessed that beneath the deep pain lies a deeper and stronger passion for this issue that is waiting to be stirred for such a time as this!
Prayer & Mobilization:
Organize awareness events, information campaigns, fundraisers and committed prayer meetings to educate others, influence decision makers, breakdown spiritual strongholds and raise support for missionaries.
Once awareness of the issue and the opportunities to help (at all ranges of commitment) are brought to the attention to our brothers and sisters, they can begin to use their gifts and resources to help — whether organizing prayer meetings, screenings, concerts, creative media (video, Internet, art) campaigns and/or fundraisers.
People can help at all ranges of commitment: whether they volunteer occasionally for events, are committed to PSALT year-round, write a check to support a missionary, or circulate an email to friends — they can know they are being effective in making a difference.
Missions:
Raise support and prayer protection for missionaries currently in the field. Organize ‘vision trips’ overseas for training and building relationships. Maintain a ‘Missions Profile Bank’ via application for anyone interested in missions to NK/China.
PSALT maintains a ‘bank’ of applications that those interested in NK missions can complete and submit. This enables us to match those interested in missions to NK with the requirements of the ‘team’ and allow us to proceed privately.
Our primary attention regarding missions is to support and work through the existing ministries/programs. The individual missionaries we support are an extension of our efforts in that we communicate with them as to their needs and mobilize to help provide for those needs. We feel it is effective because we can be and do things that they cannot and vice versa.
Through our outreach in the U.S. we usually meet people who want to find out how to serve in ways convenient to their lifestyle, yet sometimes meet people who truly have a heart to serve through missions. Currently, our aim is to connect them to other organizations with existing training programs and mission opportunities.
Networking:
PSALT believes in collaborative and cooperative relationships with other existing North Korean ministries for support, strength and effectiveness of the ministry overall.
We recognize that there are individuals and organizations with varying approaches and callings in their ministry for North Korea. Some approaches are more open and pro-engagement, others are more confidential and underground. Some, like PSALT, have a responsibility to be more public (maintaining a dual public/private operation), while others have no choice but to be extremely private.
We witness that the Lord is blessing a variety of approaches to a very complex and multifaceted issue. We will probably never truly know the extent of the ways the Lord is working in the lives and systems that touch NK and sometimes the approaches may seem to clash. However, with regard to the organizations we come in contact with, while we seek the Lord’s wisdom in exercising discernment, we believe that as long as God is the center of their vision and work, we are not the ultimate judge of the calling God has given to their ministry.
