About
PSALT NK is a Christian non-profit organization dedicated to increasing awareness of the crisis in North Korea and mobilizing people to pray, give resources and take action on behalf of the suffering.
History
The vision for PSALT began in early 2005 when a group of brothers and sisters at Harvest International Center in Somerset, New Jersey began praying about and discussing the creation of a Christian organization that would raise awareness about North Korea and the persecuted Church.
Through prayer, planning and simple obedience, PSALT began to take shape and direction. On March 12, 2006, God opened the doors to launch the organization out of Cornerstone Fellowship in Englewood, New Jersey. PSALT’s rapid growth in the tri-state area and beyond is a testament to the movement of the Spirit and the timing of the Lord’s call and will in North Korea.
Name
PSALT NK stands for ‘Prayer’ ‘Service’ ‘Action’ ‘Love’ ‘Truth’ for ‘North Korea.’ We chose ‘salt’ because of its biblical significance — the Bible calls believers to be salt and light in this world. [Matthew 5:12-14] However, the silent ‘P’ (as in Psalms) is placed first as prayer and petition to the Lord in all that we do and all that needs to be done is first as we seek His will and direction.
Our Chemistry
PSALT is a dynamic organization that continually engages its participants and those to whom we reach out. PSALT is largely made up of English-speaking young professionals; however the range of participants include high-school students as well as retired seniors, English speakers as well as native Korean speakers, ethnic Koreans and non-Koreans, and Christians at different steps in their walks of faith.
We recognize that, even as our ministry focus is the Lord’s work and burden for North Korea, we need to encourage our fellow brothers and sisters as we work together and continue to grow in our walk with the Lord.
We are committed to growing in fellowship and support of each other, not simply for social reasons, but because we recognize that this is an intense spiritual battle and that “Our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” [Ephesians 6:12] For this reason, it is important that as members of one Body we remain attuned to the Spirit and sensitive to each other as we cover each other in prayer so as to avoid giving the enemy a foothold.
